SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, maintains the cleanliness and efficient operation of the Agricultural Center’s laboratory systems while providing technical support to teachers and students.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • AGRICUTURAL FACILITIES

    • Implements preventive maintenance program for mechanical, irrigation, electrical and related systems;
    • Performs basic maintenance and repairs such as electrical, plumbing, irrigation and related areas;
    • Examines all agricultural facilities on a regular basis to determine the type of repairs and maintenance required;
    • Assists with monitoring and compliance with all applicable codes and applications;
    • Installs and repairs machinery as required;
    • Installs and repairs all irrigation systems;
    • Mows and trims grass, as needed;
    • Irrigates area grounds, as needed;
    • Fertilizes, tills, reseeds and replants, as needed;
    • Maintains effective weed and brush control;
    • Cares for all grass, trees, plants and flowers;
    • Paints, repairs and maintains all grounds equipment;
    • Removes debris from agricultural facility and other areas as required;
    • Utilizes blueprints and general operating manuals in the performance of duties;
    • Assists in maintaining supply inventory;
    • Attends meetings as assigned; and
    • Performs other related tasks, as assigned.

     

    INSTRUCTIONAL

    • Assists in planning and preparation of instructional materials;
    • Assists in planning and preparation for group and individual activities;
    • Assists with preparing laboratory environment;
    • Performs other related tasks, as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; AND two (2) years of experience working with students; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Currently enrolled in a post secondary agricultural program or related field, preferred.

 

Required Knowledge of:

  • Computers and current software.
  • Landscaping gardening tools and equipment. 
  • Irrigation systems.

  

Required Skills in:

  • Carpentry, concrete, masonry, landscaping, nursery and/ or greenhouse operations, small engine repair, or general construction.
  • Operating an agricultural tractor and tractor implements associated with grounds work.
  • Lay out, install, and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Repair and maintenance work of buildings, facilities, equipment, and livestock units.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment. 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Extensive walking, standing and bending.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in tight spaces, i.e., trenches, etc.
  • Ability to push, pull and lift weight in excess of 50 pounds.
