SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, supports and provides assistance to the supervising Speech/Language Pathologist. Provides direct therapy to students with speech and language impairments.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Provides assigned therapy to students with speech and/or language impairments.
  • Records daily therapy notes.
  • Researches new therapy techniques, activities, information on various types of communication disorders and rehabilitation and habilitation methods.
  • Consults with teachers, aides, and staff.
  • Assists in screening and evaluating students with communication difficulties.
  • Assists in preparation of individual education plans for identified students.
  • Prepares all State, local and federal reports associated with student caseload.
  • Develops activities and communication boards.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field; AND one (1) year of experience working with school age children; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Arizona Department of Health Services issued Speech Language Pathology Assistant License.

 

Required Knowledge of:

  • Research methods and techniques.
  • Various communication disorders.
  • Methods and techniques involved in treating language and communication disorders.
  • Types and uses of augmentative communication devices.
  • District, School Board, and Department policies and procedures.  

 

Required Skills in:

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment.
  • Assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.
  • Developing and implementing language and communication therapy activities.
  • Practicing methods involved in providing quality customer service.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office and classroom environment.
  • May be required to work with students with limited mobility and young children on floor.
