SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, evaluates students and determines the level of speech and/or language impairment. Develops and implements a therapy protocol to habilitate or rehabilitate the specific needs of the student. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides direct speech therapy services. Screens and evaluates students with communication difficulties.
  • Arranges and supervises the implementation of therapy plans.
  • Prepares documentation that complies with Arizona Department of Education (ADE) requirements. 
  • Bills Medicaid for speech therapy services provided. 
  • Travels among school sites to consult with parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, and other related service providers. 
  • Supervises Speech Language Assistants and Student Services paraprofessionals in cooperation with the Principal.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology; AND three (3) years of experience as a speech language pathologist in a public school setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Arizona Department of Education SLP Certificate
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence Certification. 
  • Arizona Speech Language Pathologist License. 

Required Knowledge of:

  • Researched-based therapeutic interventions in the field of speech language pathology. 
  • Various types and uses of augmentative communication devices. 
  • Federal and state laws affecting special education services and disability issues 
  • Governing Board, District and Department policies and procedures regarding identification, evaluation, placement, service structure and multi-disciplinary support.  

Required Skills in:

  • Working with a diverse student and staff population.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment.
  • Assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.  
  • Developing and administering speech therapy goals and programs. 
  • Practicing methods involved in providing quality customer service.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment. 
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned
