SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, evaluate, plan and implement therapeutic activities for restoration of physical function or minimization of residual disability.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Evaluate, plan and implement therapeutic activities for restoration of physical function or minimization of residual disability.
  • Develop and implement treatment plan and strategies for direct student intervention based on the evaluation results and IEP goals and objectives. 
  • Conduct assessments and help to determine student’s eligibility for occupational therapy services and/or therapeutic support and provide these services as well as training, consultation and documentation.
  • Collect data and generate written reports. Participate in the MET process as needed. 
  • Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations. 
  • Arranges and supervises the implementation of therapy plans.
  • Researches resources and methods to determine the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals. Fabricate and/or adjust adaptive equipment as needed. 
  • Screens students to determine the need for further individualized assessment. 
  • Prepares documentation that complies with Arizona Department of Education (ADE) requirements. 
  • Bills Medicaid for therapy services provided. 
  • Travels among school sites to consult with parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, and other related service providers. 
  • Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants and Student Services paraprofessionals in cooperation with the Principal.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy; AND two (2) years of clinical experience or experience in a public school setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Arizona Occupational Therapy License. 
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Required Knowledge of:

  • Medical/developmental/pediatric information and indications for occupational therapy treatment. 
  • Evaluation and diagnostic tools appropriate to students’ physical development and adaptive needs in the school setting.
  • Adaptive devices and assistive technology specific to the student’s needs in the educational environment. 
  • Federal and state laws affecting special education services and disability issues 
  • Governing Board, District and Department policies and procedures regarding identification, evaluation, placement, service structure and multi-disciplinary support.  

Required Skills in:

  • Working with a diverse student and staff population.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment.
  • Assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.  
  • Developing and administering therapy goals and programs. 
  • Practicing methods involved in providing quality customer service.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment. 
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned
