SUMMARY:  Under basic supervision, collaborates with physicians to optimize student athlete activity and participation in athletics. Works to create a safe playing environment for students by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Provides guidance to coaches and student athletes regarding injury prevention and daily health habits.
  • Provides services to both teams during home events and travels with athletic teams as needed.
  • Provides water, supplies, and athletic taping for practice(s) and competitions.
  • Responsible for recruiting, training and supervising student trainers. Schedules student trainers for athletic competitions (both home and away) and practices.
  • Provides first aid and injury assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for student athletes.
  • Responsible for referring athletes to their personal physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment. Maintains contact with parents regarding athletic health care and treatment.
  • Supervises the utilization of the facilities and equipment needed by the students and staff for any rehabilitation or treatment of athletic related injuries.
  • Assists in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including but not limited to taping, pads, and braces.
  • Supervises the clearance of injured athletes prior to, and during the sports seasons.
  • Manages the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room. Maintains athletic training room inventory and ensures equipment is in good working order.
  • Stores and inventories supplies and equipment. Allocates each team appropriate medical equipment and supplies.
  • Provides the Athletic Coordinator with an annual budget estimate for supplies and equipment. Files all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and incidents. Maintains daily treatment log.
  • Promotes a positive and competitive attitude throughout the entire athletic department and models an athletic lifestyle.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training; AND 750 hours of clinical rotations; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Required License and Certification:

  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Arizona Athletic Trainer Certification.
  • First aid, CPR, and AED Certification.

 

Required Knowledge of:

  • Arizona Interscholastic Association Bylaws.
  • National Athletic Trainers Association rules, regulations, and code of ethics.
  • District and Department policies and procedures.

 

Required Skills in:

  • Assessing, identifying, and treating various athletic injuries.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Coordinating and directing athletic events.
  • Practicing methods involved in providing quality customer service.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment as well as outdoors.
  • May involve occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds or lifting student athletes
