SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, serves as liaison between families, schools, and the community for the purposes of raising student achievement and promoting the goals and objectives of the District’s Parent Involvement Program.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Coordinates, creates, and distributes monthly calendars and newsletters. Coordinates and organizes the Student of the Month celebration, Site Council meetings, and other regular events that draw parent and community members.
  • Translates phone calls as needed with teachers or at administrative meetings. Documents all communications.
  • Assists with non-academic data collection as needed.
  • Actively maintains website and social media pages as required.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts parent education classes (e.g. computer literacy classes, parenting classes, English classes, etc.). Implements Kinder Awareness Program, if applicable.
  • Ensures marquee is current with important dates for events. Creates event flyers. Coordinates parent volunteers for school functions. Coordinates the graduation/promotion programs.
  • Interviews and qualifies families and students to the McKinney Vento Program. Purchases and provides basic supplies for students in need. Conducts home visits as needed. Provides semi-annual trainings to staff regarding McKinney Vento requirements.
  • Organizes the parent survey and teacher appreciation week.
  • Arranges and implements various special events with the District liaison, community organizations, and local businesses. Assists with the coordination of the annual Back to School Blitz.
  • Maintains parent liaison manual.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s degree preferred; AND two (2) years of experience in a public education environment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Required Knowledge of:

  • District and Department policies and procedures.
  • Community resources and networks.
  • Fundamentals of customer service and communication.

 

Required Skills in:

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment.
  • Assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Practicing methods involved in providing quality customer service.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
