GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

To assist in providing technical skill and knowledge to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the District’s network system; and to assure the safe and efficient operation of computer and software technology for staff and students.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Installs, configures, runs and supports a variety of software application, memory chips, computer cards, printers and hubs;
  • Assists in maintaining the operation and repair of the technology network, stations and peripherals;
  • Troubleshoots equipment such as cables, power cords, connectors, printers, modem ports, batteries, memory space and other external devices;
  • Reviews and debugs error messages to determine software or hardware problems and takes appropriate action to resolve problems;
  • Assists in monitoring and maintaining servers;
  • Assists with the operation of the network system;
  • Assists in overseeing the users and groups on the file server;
  • Inspects, maintains and performs minor equipment repairs to keep all workstations running properly and without errors;
  • Provides technical support on issues related to e-mail, Internet access, data downloads and presentation devices;
  • Works with a variety of peripherals and presentations devices such as scanners, CD-ROM, video cameras, overhead projectors, zip drives, etc;
  • Research, review and implement current and new technologies for the computers, which include software and hardware to offer maximum understanding of constantly changing field;
  • Assists in maintaining inventory records of hardware, software, lab and other support materials for each school site;
  • Assists in maintaining records such as the network support manual, repair log, teacher e-mail addresses and passwords, supply use, warranty information, program documentation, etc;
  • Assists in maintaining licensing records for the District;
  • Interprets verbally and in writing technical manuals for individuals;
  • Assists in implementing District-wide plans for support, maintenance, upgrade, expansion, and overall improvement of technology and computer resources;
  • Assists in conducting technology training, as needed;
  • Repairs computers and peripherals, as time allows;
  • Assists webmaster with training and assists departments with development, implementation and maintenance of individual department web pages; and
  • Performs other related technical tasks, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Highly technical training or equivalent;
  • Two year’s experience working in a school or related computer environment is required;
  • Demonstrate skill in the installation, repair and maintenance of computer equipment and related devices;
  • Demonstrate skill in evaluating and determining causes for equipment failure;
  • Demonstrate ability to interpret technical information;
  • Knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheets, database, e-mail systems, and software training; and
  • Ability to work and communicate with diverse staff groups.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds; no history of back problems.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to accommodate flexible hours and days; and
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for local travel.
