SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, provides health care services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. Supports the education process by modification or removal of health related barriers to learning.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Assists in preparation of physical environment that meets the needs of students;
- Directs implementation of federal and state mandated programs;
- Maintains student health profiles/special reports;
- Conducts student physicals;
- Records all student data in the computer;
- Provides health workshop for district employees and other agencies, when requested;
- Conducts staff in-service on safety, communicable diseases and emergencies;
- Sterilizes and maintains medical equipment and supplies;
- Completes state and county reports;
- Manages health services budget;
- Composes health-related articles and informational materials for distribution;
- Plans bulletin boards and displays of health education materials;
- Supervises staff assigned to the Health Services Unit;
- Maintains immunization records and deficiency notifications;
- Monitors medical treatment activities of health aides;
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
STUDENT INTERACTION
- Administers emergency treatment and medical care to students and staff;
- Maintains daily log of medical treatment of students and staff;
- Conducts student physicals;
- Performs visual, auditory, special education screenings;
- Assists with health education activities;
- Transports children as required;
QUALIFICATIONS:
ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- Registered Nursing Degree from an accredited institution;
- Valid Arizona State Board of Education School Nurse Certificate;
- Three years health services experience in a medical or school setting required;
- Ability to communicate and work well with children and staff; and
- CPR/first aid certification required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May be required to assist students with restricted mobility.
